Objective: Students will demonstrate the proper technique for performing biological monitoring.

Competency: The student will set up armamentarium and Students will be taught the proper technique for biological monitoring. The use of all OSHA and PPE procedures will be practiced without error.

Practice Required: 3

When wearing all PPE placed all the strip in the bundle of instruments and sealed the package

Placed the pack with the strip in the center of the sterilizer load.

Placed the remainder of the package instruments into the sterilizer, and processed the load through a normal sterilization cycle.

Removed utility gloved, mask, and eyewear. Washed and dried hands.

Recorded the date of the test; the type of sterilizer, the cycle, temperature, and time; and the name of the person operating the sterilizer.

Removed and process strip after the load was sterilized.

Mailed the process spore strip to the monitoring service.

Total Instructor's Evaluation

Total Possible Points = 28 points

Minimum passing score = 28 points

If step is missed or minimum competency is not met, the evaluated procedure fails and must be repeated.
